Housing First – Residential Stability with Support (RSS)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The SRA program enables Indigenous individuals (more than half of whom are Inuit), to access subsidized housing of their choice. This program is part of a continuum of services alongside emergency shelter services. With the support of a case manager using a strength-based approach, program participants acquire or develop the skills necessary for housing stability.

Since its inception in the fall of 2016 until March 31, 2022, the program had a capacity for 16 participants. Thanks to renewed funding from the Housing First program for the 2022-2024 period, the program’s capacity now reaches 25 participants.

On average, the two case workers conduct approximately 18 participant visits per week.

Short Term Supportive Housing Project

This short-term program was offered twice in 2021. Its goal is to help unhoused community members find housing. Offered to all participants, the only prerequisite is to potentially be autonomous after three months. In order to give our participants a helping hand, this program provided payment of three months’ rent, and payment of essential supplies to get settled in housing and find a job, up to a maximum of $5000 per person. Through their hard work, our housing agents were able to house 22 people between April 1 and December 31, 2021.
